Editorial policy

Every count on this site is worked out from our own range, so a figure cannot quietly go stale once prices change.

Every quotation comes from a document we opened and read, and the date we read it is printed beside it. We keep the text of each source and compare each quotation against it character by character. A quotation that stopped matching would never reach you.

We publish star ratings on 133 of our 143 products. They are the ratings customers left, not an average we computed, and where a product has none we print nothing rather than a zero. A rating belongs to a group of related products rather than to one pack size, so members of a group show the same figure and we count each group once when we total them.

Reviews are quoted word for word, including the spelling and the complaints. We do not tidy them, we do not shorten them to suit us, and we do not leave the unflattering ones out: a page of nothing but praise tells you nothing.

We do not invent company detail. There is no founding year, address, headcount or certificate number on this site, and that is deliberate: we would rather leave a gap than fill it with something you cannot check.
